In Memoriam: Janet (Osteryoung) Jones

SEAC wishes to remember Janet (Osteryoung) Jones, who passed away from a long illness on September 21, 2021.  She was well known for her contributions to electroanalytical chemistry, namely in the development of Square Wave Voltammetry (SWV).  Janet was very active in SEAC and she will be remembered fondly.  Janet was a founding leader of SEAC serving as Secretary from 1984 – 1985, SEAC President 1986 – 1987, and Charles N. Reilley Awardee in 1999. Current SEAC Secretary, Maryanne Collinson, shared a special memory:

She was an important member of the electroanalytical community. She was chair of the Department of Chemistry at North Carolina State University at the time I graduated. There were not too many women electrochemists at the time and I will always remember being impressed by what she had accomplished, which I know was not easy. I also remember her asking me a question at my final research seminar that I knew the answer to but in my moment of panic could not get it out. It was so embarrassing but she came up afterward and we had a great conversation and she congratulated me.
